MORNING MUSTS: OUR FAVORITE LA JOLLA CAFES & BREAKFAST JOINTS

*With changing local Covid dining regulations, we recommend checking directly with the restaurants for the latest updates. Dining statuses may have changed since this blog was published.

It’s very likely that you planned your La Jolla vacation to take advantage of our sunny weather, beautiful beaches and ideal location near many of San Diego’s most popular attractions. What you may not realize is that our neighborhood, La Jolla Village, is full of delicious restaurants to satisfy whatever vacation cravings you may have.

Let’s start where you start your day … breakfast! Here are a few of our favorites that are all LOCAL and all WALKING DISTANCE from your door here at Pantai Inn La Jolla!

COFFEE & SCONES | Brick and Bell

6 minutes from Pantai Inn

There is nothing quite like a morning walk along our coastline with a hot coffee and warm scone in hand. Brick and Bell, our favorite scone stop, is a beautifully quaint cafe that serves up fresh pastries, tasty sandwiches, and of course coffee, tea and juice. You’ll feel like a true La Jolla local with a stop here. Brick and Bell is open for grab and go, and has open outdoor seating available.

SOMETHING LIGHT | Parakeet Cafe + Parakeet Juicery

7 Minutes from Pantai Inn

It doesn’t get any more San Diego than Parakeet Cafe! Started right here in La Jolla, Parakeet Cafe offers up healthy breakfast and lunch dishes, beautifully crafted coffees, and pastries in the most Instagrammable setting. We love their line of “Wellness Lattes,” including the Magic Mushroom Matcha and Turmeric Latte, which are made with superfoods and adaptogens so you can feel good about your morning pick-me-up. Parakeet Cafe recently expanded their La Jolla Village operations with Parakeet Juicery located just two doors down. The Juicery offers (of course) juices plus smoothies and bowls all with the goal “to heal and nourish your body, mind and soul.” Parakeet offers pick up, delivery and has limited outdoor open seating.

THE DINER | Harry’s Coffee Shop

12 Minutes from Pantai Inn

Founded in 1960, Harry’s Coffee Shop is a neighborhood diner with a well-worn, SoCal vibe that LJ locals continue to love. Sip your drip coffee and enjoy the dishes that earned them the 2018 San Diego Magazine Best Diner Critics Pick AND a spot on Food Network’s “Top 5 Restaurants.” Come to Harry’s hungry, because the BW Benny, Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and California Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito will be calling your name. For those looking for a little memento of their time in La Jolla, we love that their merch stays true to their vintage diner roots. It’s the longest walk of our list, but the Spicy Bloody Mary alone is worth it. Harry’s is open for take out and patio seating.

ICONIC LA JOLLA | The Cottage

8 Minutes from Pantai Inn

The Cottage is a staple of La Jolla’s dining scene. In years past, you could expect to see a long line of hungry brunchers waiting to get a slice of The Cottage’s Brioche French Toast or Eggs La Jolla Benedict. While Covid has changed the dining scene, it hasn’t curbed our cravings for this restaurant. Early risers will also love that they are open daily from 7:30 am! It is worth mentioning that The Cottage has been voted the #1 restaurant in La Jolla on multiple occasions by TripAdvisor. They are currently open for outdoor dining with an online waitlist.
